Sankara Eye Hospital, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated on 1st March 2004 with the active support of the TANA Foundation, Sankara Eye Foundation USA and philanthropic families in Guntur and nearby areas. The inauguration took place in phases. The first step started with 100 free beds and 20 paid beds on March 1st, 2004. This capacity enabled us to perform 10,000 free eye surgeries every year. During the 2nd phase, additional 100 beds, an operation theater, and an eye bank were added to the hospital. This addition enabled us to perform 25000 free eye surgeries every year.

The hospital caters to Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam, Nalgonda and Khammam districts. At present, the hospital employs over 36 Doctors which include 13 Ophthalmologists, 7 Fellows in Ophthalmology, 8 DNB Students and eight doctors for General Medicine and Anesthesiology and 146 Administrative and Paramedic Staff. We are always working to improve our reach and include more people under the umbrella of free treatment. During the next phase, we plan to introduce the following: Lasik facility, state-of-the-art eye equipment, additional 100 free beds, expand the paid section, build the staff quarters. With your support, we have been able to meet our fundraising requirements for this hospital.
